The Silence

A ten-year-old blind boy in a Tajik village, who works as a tuner for a maker of musical instruments, is the hero of this 1998 feature by Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf. Built around a charming poetic conceit, the film feels overextended in spots, but it’s still an enormously likable effort. (JR)
