The Deputy Angelina

One of Anna Magnani’s most celebrated early film parts, which won her a best-actress prize at the Venice film festival, was as a working-class woman who organizes her neighbors in Rome to fight for their rights in postwar Italy. Luigi Zampa directed this neorealist comedy-drama; Nando Bruno and Ave Ninchi also star (1947). (JR)
